About Roosevelt Collier:

Miami native Roosevelt Collier has been stretching the boundaries of how sounds can be manipulated by the pedal steel guitar for years. His playing uplifted congregations at Pentecostal churches across South Florida before he joined his uncles and cousins as a member of the Lee Boys. Following in the sacred steel steps of their mentors in the Campbell Brothers and the Slide Brothers, the Lee Boys soon began gigging outside of the church. The gospel family band performed for thousands at festivals across the country, finding a loyal following on the jam-band circuit. It was at during those early festival performances that fellow artists like Warren Haynes and Del McCoury first took note of Collier's lightning-fast slide work and began inviting on stage to perform with them.
As a solo artist, Collier found an even larger fan base among live music lovers, which he has earned one electric performance at a time. His live shows are packed with raw passion as he shreds solos from the seated position that the pedal steel guitar mandates.

Talent buyers at music festivals across the country — like Jam Cruise, Bear Creek, All Good, Summer Camp, Telluride Blues & Brews and Warren Haynes Christmas Jam — soon took notice of Collier's talent and began billing him as an "Artist at Large" to facilitate his one-of-a-kind collaborations. At the festivals, Collier bounced from stage to stage logging hair-raising performances with his favorite acts and musicians across all genres.

Back in Florida, Collier's namesake trio — which features drummer Anthony Cole of Mofro and bassist Matt Lapham of Shak Nasti — has opened for Dumpstaphunk, Macy Gray and Widespread Panic in their home state. In May 2016 the trio traveled to Colorado for the first time, packing out Denver's Bluebird Theater for "Roosevelt Collier's Colorado Get Down," which featured special guest Bill Nershi of String Cheese Incident.

Collier's traveling "Get Downs" have made regular visits to California, Colorado, New York and the Southeast since 2014, featuring members of Big Gigantic, The Motet, Lettuce, Fishbone and more.

In 2015, when fellow sacred steel guitarist Robert Randolph broke his hand right before a series of high profile performances with The Word, Collier answered the call from Randolph — filling in for the superstar on main stage performances at Wanee Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on just a few days notice.

Since 2012, Collier has become a mainstay on New Orleans' annual Jazzfest circuit in his own right, performing with all manner of artists from Frenchmen Street to Tipitina's and back, headlining his own Jimi Hendrix tribute, and guesting with bands like Greensky Bluegrass, Keith Frank and Los Lobos on the festival grounds.

But the soft-spoken slide master always stays humble to his Florida roots. Whether headlining his own disc jam festival at the beloved Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park, or hosting an all-star 'get down' across the country — when the big man from Miami takes the stage, the ear-to-ear grins can’t help but be contagious.
